How Firefly Legal's Precision Prevented an $18K Vehicle Loss in Duval County, Florida

When Brock & Scott, PLLC, a prominent law firm specializing in creditor rights, reached out to Firefly Legal with a need for immediate legal support, we didn’t hesitate to take the case. Their client, in danger of losing their vehicle to a public lien sale, only had 48 hours to save their car, and didn’t know what to do.

Brock & Scott knew our industry-leading expertise would lead to swift service and court filing with efficiency and compliance. Firefly was committed to saving the vehicle from a lien sale, even though doing so required a quick turnaround.  After we were contacted, we immediately jumped into action.

The Situation:

48 Hours Until

Vehicle Public Lien Sale

Our Client: Brock & Scott, PLLC
Industry: Auto Replevin & Lien Sales
Jurisdiction: Duval County, Florida
Referral Source: Jeff Becker, Attorney at Hiday & Ricke
Documents Addressed: Certificate of Title, Lien Sale Notice, Bond on Mechanic & Storage Lien
Bond Amount: $18,157.53
Turnaround Time: 48 hours (Request received 4/15/25 → Completed 4/17/25)

On April 15, 2025, Brock & Scott, PLLC, was referred to Firefly Legal by local attorney, Jeff Becker, of Hiday & Ricke. The firm was in a race against the clock to save their client from losing a vehicle in a public lien sale in Duval County, FL.

In order to save the client from this catastrophic loss, a surety bond for $18,157.53 needed to be filed and served within a tight 48-hour deadline. Florida law allows auto repair shops to negate a lienholder’s claim on a vehicle if unpaid repair or storage fees exist, and the client was running out of options.

Firefly Legal needed to overnight the original bond to our process server in Duval, or the client would lose ownership rights to their transportation in less than three days. The bond needed to be filed and served immediately.

The clock was rapidly ticking, and we refused to miss the tight deadline.

The Challenge:

Critical Legal Documents & Flawless Coordination

Filing the surety bond required Firefly Legal to surpass standard expectations and demanded the seamless coordination of all involved parties. We needed to ensure timely communication between every party and had zero room for error.

The complexities of the case...

Multiple Parties Involved

  • The client’s legal team (Brock & Scott, PLLC)
  • The bond company
  • The Firefly Legal process server in Duval County
  • The Court Clerk in Duval County
  • The auto repair shop placing the vehicle lien

.

High Stakes

Each step of service demanded seamless execution and compliance with Florida law. If even one mistake occurred, the client’s case would be jeopardized.

Multiple Documents

The case necessitated three crucial legal documents that required court filing and in-person service:

  • Vehicle Certificate of Title
  • Lien Sale Notice
  • Bond on Mechanic & Storage Lien

The Firefly Response:

Urgent and Thorough

We understood the time-sensitive nature of the client’s needs, and our Civil Process Supervisor immediately responded. Firefly ensured that all communication remained clear and transparent, and the client was never left in the dark. We provided real-time status updates and directly answered any questions that arose.

We adapted to all critical challenges, and thoroughly and efficiently completed every necessary step:

Real-Time Coordination: We directly maintained clear and continuous communication with our process server and the involved parties. This allowed us to offer real-time progress updates, and we tracked every step of the process, rapidly conquering any challenge that arose.

Prompt Court Filing: On April 16th, just one day after we received the client’s urgent request, our team filed all required court documents with the Duval County Clerk. This prompt court filing occurred well before the 48-hour deadline expired.

Completed Personal Service: Just 48 hours after we received the initial request, our Firefly Legal process server in Duval County completed in-person service to the auto repair shop at 10:30 a.m. on April 17th..

The Outcome:

A Successful Case & A Vehicle Saved
